The Campaign to Protect Rural England at RHS Chelsea
To celebrate 100 years of standing up for the countryside, the Campaign to Protect Rural England brought its first show garden to RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2026.
Designed by Sarah Eberle MBE, the most decorated designer in RHS Chelsea history, The Campaign to Protect Rural England Garden: ‘On the Edge’ shone a spotlight on the overlooked countryside found on the fringes of our towns and cities.
Supported by Project Giving Back, the garden highlighted the importance of edgelands, the fragile spaces on the fringes of our towns and cities that connect people to nature in everyday life, yet are undervalued and under constant threat.
Emma Mason PR supported CPRE’s communications team, also working closely with Sarah and her team of artisans and contractors, and acting as PR lead for the RHS Chelsea project. The campaign included assisting with strategy, developing media stories, pre-briefing journalists, arranging interviews, reaching out to content creators and co-ordinating press activity in the build-up to and during the show.
The garden, with its striking Mother Nature figure, won both an RHS Gold medal and the coveted Best Show Garden award. The PR campaign secured more than 1,000 media mentions across national and regional newspapers, magazines, digital media, television and radio, helping CPRE take its message about protecting the countryside on our doorsteps to a huge audience.
The reimagined garden is now rooted at the iconic Park Hill in Sheffield, a welcoming community space for local residents to enjoy for generations to come.
